They say that you don’t know what you had until you’ve lost it. I think that’s very true. I often used to wonder what impact I was making on the world, and thought for a long time that when I’m not around would anyone notice.
I’ve decided that we all touch and impact the people and the world around us more than we realise. From chatting occasionally to the people behind the counter in the local shop, to those working in a favourite restaurant, to someone we meet while passing in the street, we matter. And if we show others that they matter too, then that’s a good thing.
Its an easy thing to do. When someone is walking towards you, or serving you somewhere, or where you are serving them, look them in the eye, smile and say “hello”, or “thank you”, or “you’re welcome”. Watch how they react – very few will find it an unpleasant experience.
