One news story, apart from politics, seems to be hitting the headlines here in the UK at the moment. I don’t know if it’s made the news elsewhere in the world, but when the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) wanted some help naming their new polar research vessel they asked the public what they thought it should be called.
James Hand, a former radio presenter suggested “Boaty McBoatface” and the idea appears to have stuck, so far having gathered nearly 9 times the number of votes as it’s nearest rival. Other tongue in cheek suggestions apparently include “Usain Boat”, “Ice Ice Baby” and “NottheTitanic”. In all likelihood I’m betting that it will be named after a polar explorer or two, but it’s good to have something less serious to distract us from time to time.
