Flat cat – Image #58

When I was a youngster, my parents would leave me in the capable hands of a babysitter if they went out.  There were several different girls who looked after me: one of them used to bring along square sheets of coloured paper and a book on origami, and we’d spend a chunk of the evening trying to follow the instructions and make whatever it was that was in the book.  I think I then discovered model aircraft and stopped trying to make flying cranes and the like, and never really thought about origami for years.

Fast forward to today.  Dee and I had stopped off at a craft shop as there was something she “just wanted to look at” – we were there for a while! (She says it wasn’t preplanned but I’m pretty sure that wasn’t the case: I pull the same tricks where music or outdoor shops are concerned!) I was wandering the aisles in the shop and happened upon a shelf full of blocks of square paper, specifically for origami.  On a whim, I bought a small pack – though with hindsight a bigger pack might have been better as my hands are a bit big and clumsy – and today’s image is the first bit of origami I’ve done in nearly 45 years. I’m pleased with it, though it was very simple.

I was going to watch the World Origami Championships on TV, but it was a pay-per-view event…

I’d also heard about an origami business, but it folded…
