Blogger Recognition Award

I have been very kindly nominated for this award, and I have Kim at Do You See What I See?? to thank for it. Thanks Kim! Check his site out as there are some fabulous photos on there. I’m always amazed at how creative people are, when I don’t think I’m very creative myself.

The Rules

  1. Select 15 other blogs you want to give the award to. You cannot nominate yourself or the person who has nominated you
  2. Give a brief story of how your blog got started
  3. Give a piece or two of advice to new bloggers
  4. Thank whoever nominated you, and provide a link to their blog
  5. List those you’ve nominated in the post and comment on their blogs to let them know you’ve nominated them.

How did it all start?

I’ve undergone a number of changes to personal circumstances in the last year or so. I found that writing was very cathartic and helped me crystallise the thoughts around those changes. It was also an outlet to help me “talk” about a range of things that interested me.

Some advice for newbies

I had been playing around with WordPress for a while, with a fairly erratic approach to posting articles.  I found the WordPress Blogging 101 course and that helped improve my writing skills and presentation, as well as to “meet” lots of other bloggers, so I’d suggest you give that a go if you’ve not done so already.

If you think about pubs building a reputation, they make a point of doing the same sort of thing on the same night every week or every month eg pub quiz every Wednesday, live band every Saturday, steak night every Monday.  People stopping by become regulars for the things they like ie they become followers.  It’s the same with blogging. Posting regularly – even if only weekly or monthly – on a similar topic will help build rapport with potential readers, and builds expectations.

Stick with it! The more you write, the more confident you’ll become, and your writing style will improve over time too.

Finally, there are no right or wrong ways to blog. It’s yours to do with as you please, so make it yours.  You are unique, and your blog will be too.

These are in no particular order. I really like the diversity and quality of the content on show here.  I’ve reblogged or linked back to some articles from some of these on my site, so can I just say thanks to you all and keep up the good work.
